At approximately 1:15 AM on April 23, 2026, an officer with the Adairsville Police Department conducted a traffic stop for speeding at a MAPCO gas station located on Joe Frank Harris Parkway NW. According to reports, the suspect exited the vehicle from the passenger side, walked to the driver's side, re-entered the vehicle, and drove across the parking lot. After the officer stopped the vehicle, the suspect attempted to leave the scene on foot. The officer deployed a taser, but it proved ineffective. Subsequently, the suspect drew a firearm and fired at the officer, striking the officer’s ballistic vest. The officer responded by returning fire and struck the suspect.

Both the officer and the suspect were transported to a local hospital. The officer was treated and released, with Adairsville Police Chief Mike Jones reporting that the officer sustained significant bruising because of the shooting. The suspect, identified as 26-year-old Saeed Ahmen Reed, was pronounced deceased at the hospital. At the time of the incident, one child and three other adults were present in the vehicle but were unharmed. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
