The NIJ Compliance Testing Program (CTP) is providing this bulletin on regulatory matters involving body armor that may impact participants in the NIJ CTP.
Participants in the NIJ CTP that have armor models certified at the NIJ RF3 protection level listed on the “07” Compliant Products List (CPL) or have armor models certified at the NIJ Level IV protection level listed on the “06” CPL are reminded that participation may require compliance with regulatory requirements prior to completion of periodic Follow-up Inspection and Testing (FIT). In particular, participants who produce armor models at this protection level at manufacturing locations outside the United States are advised to contact all NIJ-approved laboratories in advance of Initial Type Testing (ITT) to ensure that FIT can be conducted in compliance with any applicable U.S. regulations covering body armor and associated test data and defense services. These regulatory processes may involve significant lead time to complete.
