Agents with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations state that bullet struck an officer on the ballistic vest when they were attempting to apprehend a fugitive. The incident occurred on the afternoon of May 15. Reports state that they were serving a warrant for Timothy Alan Hoilman who was charged with several sex offenses involving minors. When agents approached, Hoilman pulled out a gun and shot himself; the discharged round then struck the vest of one of the agents.
Aid was administered on scene to Hoilman until he was transported to an area hospital were he later died. No reports indicate that the agent sustained any serious injuries.
