At approximately 2:15 a.m. on August 21, 2026, Dearborn Police Department officers responded to the Panthelon Club on Michigan Avenue after receiving a report of an individual displaying a firearm. When officers contacted the suspect, he was uncooperative and left the scene in a truck. Plainclothes officers from the Dearborn Special Investigations Unit followed the suspect to a gas station near Inkster and Van Born roads. After identifying themselves and attempting to apprehend him, the suspect fired at officers. Officers returned fire, striking the suspect, who then fled in his vehicle. During the pursuit, the suspect was seen throwing two handguns from the vehicle before stopping and being taken into custody.

Both injured officers sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to a local hospital. One officer was struck in the stomach and arm, and the other was struck in the shoulder.

Dearborn Police Chief Issa Shahin stated that a bulletproof vest may have saved at least one officer’s life, adding that both officers had been released from the hospital and were recovering at home. The suspect has not been identified, and his condition is unknown.
