In the early morning hours of May 5, 2025, officers with the Michigan State Police Troopers Auto Theft team were investigating on Trojan and Murray Hill Streets. During the investigation, a male suspect jumped out of a vehicle and begin firing rounds at the officers. One of the Troopers was shot in the lower back, leg, and bullet proof vest. Another Trooper returned fire, killing the suspect.
The injured was transported to Detroit Receiving Hospital where he is listed in critical condition. The officer has not been identified. The Homicide Task Force is handling the investigation. The deceased suspect is listed as a 23-year-old male; the vehicle he jumped out of has been towed and will be further investigated.
