A Massachusetts State Trooper is recovering after being shot during a traffic stop that occurred at approximately 11:30 pm in Hyannis. According to a statement from the Massachusetts State Police, the 28-year-old trooper was shot in the hand by occupants of a vehicle he had pulled over for a traffic violation. The bullet went completely through his hand and was stopped by his protective vest. A local photojournalist, who was first on the scene, immediately tried to provide first aid to the trooper. A fellow Trooper who arrived on the scene shortly thereafter rushed his injured colleague to Cape Cod Hospital. The injured trooper was then taken to Mass General Hospital in Boston by ambulance. The trooper’s injuries are described as non-life threatening.
The suspects immediately fled the scene in their vehicle. Their car was later recovered by police, but the suspects remain at large.
