A Charleston, SC police officer was treated and released from a local hospital after he was shot in the chest while investigating a reported domestic assault on early Tuesday morning.
Charleston Police were called to an apartment complex at 3:15 am on December 29 to investigate a reported domestic violence incident involving a firearm. Upon arrival, responding officers were shot at by the suspect, striking one of the officers in the chest. According to Charleston Police Chief Luther Reynolds, the officer was wearing a ballistic-resistant vest, which stopped the round. Also according to Chief Reynolds, in the ensuing exchange of gunfire between the suspect and police, the suspect was fatally shot. The injured officer was taken to a local hospital, where he was treated and released.
