A Michigan State Trooper was shot Wednesday afternoon. At approximately 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Michigan State Police (MSP) troopers, U.S. Marshals, ATF (Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms), and the Michigan Department of Corrections attempted to serve multiple felony arrest warrants on a 51-year-old subject. The officers observed the subject leaving a store in Bridgeport Township, and the subject fled on foot when he observed the officers approaching. He pulled a gun out of his clothing and opened fire on the officers, striking one of the MSP troopers. Officers returned fire, striking the subject multiple times. Officers and medical personnel rendered aid to both the injured trooper and subject, but the subject died at the scene from his injuries.
According to MSP Colonel James Grady II, the injured trooper, who was struck twice, once in the ballistic-resistant vest he was wearing and once in the abdomen, suffered “serious injuries” was transported to a local hospital where he is currently recovering in stable condition. The incident remains under investigation by MSP Second District.
