On December 9, 2025, at approximately 4 p.m., a Bexar County Deputy Constable was shot while serving an eviction notice at an apartment complex. The injured deputy, along with other officers were working with the apartment complex’s maintenance team to gain access to the apartment when the suspect opened fire with a handgun, striking the deputy in his body armor. After the deputy was injured, tear gas was deployed into the apartment and the suspect was taken into custody without any further incident.
The injured officer was identified as Deputy Constable Darryl Ward. He is expected to be ok according to Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar. The suspect has been identified at 49-year-old Kevin Gerber. Gerber faces charges of attempted capital murder and 8 counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. It is believed that Gerber suffers from mental health issues.
