Two Chesterfield County, Virginia, police officers are recovering after being shot Tuesday evening. Shortly after 6:00 p.m. Tuesday evening, Chesterfield County officers responded to a call for a man “experiencing emotional distress”. While one officer was speaking with family members, another officer was speaking with the individual in emotional distress. At some point, a struggle ensued between the man and the officer, and the man tried to take the officer’s firearm. The man shot the officer in the chest, but the round was stopped by the officer’s ballistic-resistant vest. Hearing the gunfire, the other officer ran to help the injured officer, and he was shot in the leg by the assailant. In the ensuing exchange of gunfire, the assailant was wounded by police and taken into custody. The injured assailant and both officers were transported to a local hospital for treatment, where they have all been treated and released. The assailant is being held in a local jail without bond and is facing multiple charges, including two counts of aggravated attempted murder and two counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
