A Willowick, Ohio, police officer is recovering at his home after being shot during a traffic stop, according to Willowick Police Chief Brian Turner. Police in a neighboring jurisdiction received a call about a driver who was driving erratic and may be intoxicated, Chief Turner said. The driver went into Willowick where he crashed into a car and flipped it. The driver of the flipped car is OK, according to police. Officers pulled the driver over about a mile from the intersection where the crash happened. Officers asked the driver to show his hands and the driver pulled out a gun and started shooting towards them, Turner said. During the exchange of gunfire, the officer was struck in the chest, but his bullet-resistant vest stopped the bullet, according to Chief Turner. The officer was treated at a local hospital and released later the same day.
