A Borger, TX, police officer was shot Monday evening during a response to a domestic disturbance. At approximately 5:30 pm, Borger PD officers responded to a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, officers contacted the 38-year-old suspect, who was armed and using a family member as a human shield. The suspect opened fire on the officers, striking one twice, once in the arm and another that impacted his ballistic resistant vest. Officers returned fire and were able to apprehend the suspect without injury.
The wounded officer was airlifted to an Amarillo hospital for treatment. According to a social media post by Borger PD, “Thankfully, the officer was wearing his department-issued body armor and his vest absorbed most of the impact.” The post also indicated that the officer had been treated at the hospital for his injuries and released. The suspect is facing multiple charges, including aggravated assault against a peace officer and aggravated assault against a family member.
