A Harris County, Texas deputy sheriff and two United States (US) Marshals were shot Thursday evening. At approximately 6:45 p.m., the Harris County Sheriff's Office, assisted by US Marshals, arrived at a residence where an individual wanted for questioning in connection with the shooting and serious wounding of a Harris County deputy during a traffic stop the previous evening was reported to be located. As officers approached the residence, a female with two small children were leaving the residence. Officers asked if the person wanted for questioning was in the residence, and the female stated he was. When officers began to approach the residence, someone from inside opened fire, striking two US Marshals and a deputy. The officers retreated to a safe location and established a perimeter. This resulted in a 5-hour-long standoff where the individual barricaded himself in the home. At approximately 11:45 p.m., the individual surrendered to police and was taken into custody. The investigation is ongoing, and he faces multiple charges in connection with both incidents.
The injured US Marshals, one who was shot in the leg and the other who suffered a shrapnel wound to his arm, and the injured deputy, who was shot twice in the torso but was wearing a ballistic-resistant vest that stopped the rounds fired by the suspect, were transported to a local hospital and treated for their injuries.
