An Adams County, Colorado deputy sheriff was shot early Monday morning. Shortly after midnight on Monday, an Adams County deputy tried to stop a vehicle for a violation in Westminster, Colorado. The operator of the vehicle did not stop and led the deputy on a brief pursuit. The driver stopped and got out of his vehicle, opening fire on the deputy, striking him at least once in the midsection before fleeing the scene on foot. The suspect was apprehended by police several hours later.
The injured deputy, who was wearing a ballistic-resistant vest that stopped the round fired by the suspect, was transported to a local hospital for treatment and is expected to make a full recovery. The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
