A Cobb County, Georgia, police officer is recovering at home after being shot in his ballistic-resistant vest. On Sunday at approximately 3:30 pm, officers were called to respond to a reported domestic violence incident. Upon arrival, a 20-year-old male shot one of the officers at what was described by police as “point-blank range”, striking the officer in the chest on his ballistic-resistant vest. The suspect fled the scene on foot, resulting in a three-hour long search. When the suspect was found by Cobb County SWAT officers, he was shot and killed in an exchange of gunfire.
According to Cobb County Sgt. Wayne Delk, the injured officer was transported to a local hospital, where he was treated and released. Sgt. Delk said, "Because of the vest it was not a life-threatening injury, but it would have been a lot worse had he not been wearing a vest."
