A Flower Mound, Texas, police officer is recovering after being one of three officers shot Wednesday evening. At approximately 8 p.m., Flower Mound officers were called to respond to a residence where a wife reported her husband was armed and threatening to commit suicide. As three officers arrived on the scene and approached the residence, the 60-year-old suspect opened fire on the officers. One officer was injured when a bullet deflected off the glass of his ballistic-resistant shield, cutting his face. A second officer was grazed in the neck by another round. The third officer was shot in the chest but was protected by his ballistic-resistant vest. One of the officers was treated at the scene. The other two were taken to the hospital but were released later that night.
After a nearly ten-hour standoff that involved the suspect firing shots at a police robot, and police using drones to try to negotiate with the suspect, he was taken into custody after an FBI SWAT team fired tear gas into the residence. The suspect was taken to a local hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries and has been charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Additional charges are pending, according to police.
