An officer with the North Little Rock, Arkansas, Police Department (NLRPD) was shot early Wednesday evening. At approximately 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, NLRPD officers responded to investigate a reported suspicious person who matched the description of an individual involved in a nearby residential burglary that had just occurred. As the first responding officer approached the person of interest, the individual opened fire on the officer, striking him once in the chest. Another NLRPD officer, who was off duty but nearby and responded to assist, saw the shooting and intervened, firing at the suspect and striking him several times.
Both the officer and the individual who were shot were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of their injuries. According to a statement released by NLRPD, the officer who was shot was treated and released for “non-life-threatening injuries,” as he was struck in the ballistic-resistant vest he was wearing. The individual who was shot was also treated and released for what police described as “non-life-threatening injuries” and is currently being held in the Pulaski County (AR) Jail on multiple charges, including attempted capital murder.
