An officer with the Brownsville, Texas, Police Department was shot Wednesday evening. At approximately 10 p.m. Wednesday, officers with the Brownsville Police Department responded to a report of an open door at a residence. As the officers approached the residence to investigate the situation, an individual, later identified as the homeowner, fired at officers from inside the residence, striking one of them in the chest. The officer was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of what police described as “non-life-threatening injuries” because of the ballistic-resistant vest the officer was wearing. The officer was subsequently released from the hospital on Thursday morning.
According to police, the homeowner was questioned following the incident, but police declined to say whether charges are pending as the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
