A Houston, Texas, police officer is recovering after being shot on Wednesday morning. According to Houston Police Chief Troy Finner, at 11:20 am, two Houston officers pulled over a truck at a southeast Houston gas station, as the operator of the truck was the focus of a multi-agency drug investigation and officers had a warrant for his arrest. The officers instructed the operator of the truck to get out of the vehicle, and as he did, he immediately opened fire on the officers. One officer was shot and wounded in his pelvic area. Additionally, Chief Finner stated the officer was also shot in the chest, but his ballistic-resistant vest and a flashlight stopped the round, resulting in a minor injury. The second officer was not injured. In the exchange of gunfire between the suspect and police, the suspect was wounded. He was transported to a local hospital, where he remains in serious condition, according to police.
The wounded officer was also transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, but Chief Finner stated during his press conference that the officer "will be fine".
