An officer with the Forsyth, Missouri, Police Department was shot Tuesday evening. At approximately 10 p.m. Tuesday, officers from multiple agencies, including the Forsyth Police Department, responded to the area near the intersection of Route 160 and Highway 76 to investigate a reported road rage incident where shots had allegedly been fired. The Forsyth officer, who was one of the first officers on the scene, observed a male subject walking along the roadway. As the officer approached the subject, the subject produced a handgun and began firing at the officer, striking him several times. The shooter ran into a wooded area, where he was eventually located at the bottom of a ravine with the assistance of drones equipped with thermal imaging and K9 units. The shooter was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries.
The injured officer, who was wearing a ballistic-resistant vest at the time of incident, was transported to a local hospital for unspecified injuries, where he was treated and released. According to Taney County Sheriff Brad Daniels, the officer’s ballistic-resistant vest “saved his life.” The investigation into the officer’s shooting is ongoing and being handled by a multi-jurisdictional Sheriff’s Critical Incident Team from Christian, Greene, Webster, and Lawrence Counties.
