A Louisville, Kentucky police officer is recovering after being accidentally shot Friday. At approximately 3:00 p.m. Friday afternoon, a Louisville Metro Police Officer was at LMPD’s firearms training center when an instructor accidentally discharged his firearm, and the bullet struck officer in his ballistic-resistant vest. The officer was transported to a nearby hospital for precautionary treatment of what a police spokesperson described as “minor injuries.” The LMPD spokesperson also said that the incident seems to have been an accident, but is "a serious training failure, and it is swiftly being addressed." The training officer who fired his weapon has been placed on administrative leave, and the LMPD Public Integrity unit is investigating the incident.
