Three Los Angeles, California police officers were shot Wednesday evening. At about 4:00 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, LAPD officers located a wanted parolee, who refused to surrender and barricaded himself in a building. At approximately 6:00 p.m., officers deployed tear gas, and the wanted parolee exited the building and opened fire on officers, wounding three of them. The three officers – one of whom was shot in the arm, another in the leg, and the third struck in his torso by shrapnel after a bullet struck the ballistic-resistant vest he was wearing – were pulled out of the line of fire by other officers and subsequently transported to a local hospital. After the exchange of gunfire with police, the suspect was found deceased from a gunshot wound, but it was unclear if he was shot by police or if it was self-inflicted. An investigation into the incident is ongoing. The three injured officers were treated and released from a local hospital and are expected to make full recoveries.
