One NYPD officer was shot in his ballistic-resistant vest, and another was shot and grazed in the leg during a standoff with a Brooklyn man after he shot his roommate at their apartment late Sunday.
At approximately 9 pm, NYPD officers responded to a 911 call made by the suspect’s roommate after he was shot in both legs by the suspect and hid in a closet in the apartment. As officers arrived at the apartment, one was hit in his bulletproof vest and another officer grazed in the leg as the suspect fired through the door. The officers returned fire, and the alleged shooter barricaded himself inside, according to the sources. After a brief standoff, the 44-year-old suspect was taken into custody. According to police sources, he was charged with attempted murder of a police officer, attempted murder, criminal possession of a weapon and unlawful imprisonment.
Both officers went to Kings County Hospital and were treated for non-life-threatening injuries, sources said. The roommate was also treated at a nearby hospital for his injuries.
