A North Middletown Township, Pennsylvania police officer is recovering after being shot Wednesday afternoon. Around 3:30 pm, North Middletown Township Police went to a residence on Brittney Drive to serve an arrest warrant. The homeowner allowed the officers inside the residence, where they encountered the wanted subject. He refused to comply with the officer’s verbal commands, and drew a handgun, shooting one of the officers in the chest at point-blank range. The officer was wearing a ballistic-resistant vest, which stopped the round. The officers retreated from the residence, but were followed outside by the suspect, who pointed his gun at the officer he had just shot. The officer returned fire, fatally wounding the suspect, who died at the scene.
The officer was treated at a local hospital for minor injuries and was released.
