On Monday morning around 11:50am, officers responded to a call of an individual firing shots into the air with a semi-automatic rifle. When officers responded, they ordered the individual to lower his weapon, the individual did not comply and started firing shots at the officers. One officer was struck twice, 1 shot to the leg and one shot to the torso. The second officer on scene returned fire, striking the gunmen and killing him.
The officers were not named, only described as a 34-year-old officer and a 37-year-old officer. Per Milwaukee Police Chief Jeffrey Norman, the 34-year-old officer that was shot was wearing his bullet proof vest. The injured officer was rushed to a nearby hospital where surgery was performed. By Wednesday, the officer’s condition had stabilized. The investigation is still ongoing.
