A Kentucky State Trooper is recovering at home after being shot multiple times, several in his ballistic-resistant vest, on Friday afternoon. At approximately 4:15 pm, the trooper stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. While contacting the driver of the vehicle, the driver opened fire on the Trooper, striking him six times. Three shots were stopped by his ballistic-resistant vest, one struck his body-worn camera, another struck his Taser, and the sixth shot hit his body, causing reportedly serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect then fled in his vehicle. A Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife officer arrived on the scene to assist shortly after the shooting, and transported the injured Trooper to a local hospital, where he was treated for his injuries and released the next day.
The 22-year-old suspect was found and arrested at approximately 10 pm on Friday evening. He is currently in custody, and is facing multiple charges, including being a convicted felon in possession of a handgun and attempted murder of a police officer.
