A Jones County, Georgia, deputy is recovering after being shot early Sunday morning. Shortly after midnight, the deputy initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle. As the deputy approached the vehicle, the driver opened fire on the deputy, striking him once in his ballistic-resistant vest. The suspect then fled in his vehicle, with the injured deputy pursuing him. With the assistance of several other deputies, a spike strip was deployed successfully, and they were able to take the 24-year-old suspect into custody.
The deputy was transported to a local hospital, where he was treated and released. The suspect was arrested and is facing multiple charges, including aggravated assault.
