A Lee County, North Carolina, deputy is recovering after being shot Friday evening. Shortly after 9 pm, the deputy responded to a call for an intoxicated individual in the roadway. As the deputy approached the 27-year-old suspect, the suspect pulled a concealed handgun from his clothing and opened fire on the deputy. One round passed through the deputy’s body camera and lodged in his ballistic-resistant vest.
The deputy was transported to a local hospital, where he was treated and released. The suspect was arrested and is facing multiple charges, including attempted murder.
