On Jan. 14, 2012, after leaving the scene of a home theft, Officer David Winslette of the North Charleston (S.C.) Police Department approached a subject who fit the description of the subject involved in the theft. Without warning, the subject opened fire on the officer; two of the shots struck the officer. If not for the bullet-resistant vest that Officer Winslette was wearing that night, the incident would have ended much differently and Officer Winslette would not be able to tell about the incident.
