A Qualitative Evaluation of Law Enforcement Officer Wellness Applications: A Focus on Mental Health

Law enforcement officers face considerable mental health challenges due to the demands of their profession, yet stigma, confidentiality concerns, and resource limitations often hinder access to care. This report examines the selection, implementation, use, and sustainability of wellness applications in law enforcement agencies as part of a strategy to improve mental health support. Drawing on semi-structured interviews with multiple law enforcement agencies, the study identifies key considerations for successfully deploying wellness apps, including leadership buy-in, peer support integration, outreach to families, effective communication and training, and long-term sustainability planning. The findings offer practical guidance to help agencies choose the right tools, address implementation barriers, promote app use, and ensure that these digital solutions support holistic officer well-being over time.
