In the early hours of Feb 8, 2026, 2 officers were shot while responding to a report of an individual with a gun. The incident took place in Fall River, MA on Linden Street near Walnut Street at approximately 12:13am. Once officers arrived on scene, attempts were made to frisk the suspect who became uncooperative, and opened fire on officers while on the ground, striking one officer in the ballistic vest and another officer near the elbow. Officers returned fire, shooting the suspect. A total of 3 officers were treated and released from the hospital; the suspect was transported to a local hospital and pronounced dead.
The officers involved have not been identified. The suspect has been identified as 40-year-old Nigel Vaughan who is from Fall River. Massachusetts State Police are still investigating the incident.
