At around 2:30 pm on Dec 11, 2025, A Broward Sheriff’s Deputy was shot in the line of duty by a suspect accused committing a robbery at a casino. The incident started at the Seminole Hard Rock in Hollywood, Florida. Reports say the suspect grabbed money out of another person’s hand and fled the casino, which resulted in several law enforcement officers pursing the suspect. Officers caught up to the suspect around the 6100 block of Northwest 2nd Street in Margate. At this location, the suspect opened fire on the officers, striking one of the officers. Officers returned fire, striking the suspect. Broward Sheriff’s Office Spokesperson Miranda Grossman stated, “One of our deputies was shot by the suspect. Fortunately, he (officer) was protected by his bulletproof vest, and he did not sustain life-threatening injuries.”
The officer and suspect have not been identified. They both were transported to Broward Health North Hospital for treatment. The officer is expected to be ok; the condition of the suspect is unknown. The investigation is on-going.
