On November 4, 2025, at approximately 11 p.m., an officer with the Camden County Police Department was shot while responding to a “suspicious activity” call. The incident occurred near the intersection of North Chesapeake and Congress roads. When officers arrived on scene, reports indicate that they were immediately fired upon by the suspect. One bullet fired from the suspect’s weapon ricocheted off one of the officer’s ballistic vest and struck the officer in the bicep. A second officer returned fire, striking the suspect.

The injured officer has not been identified; he was transported to Cooper University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect has been identified as 25-year-old Marques Jones of Camden, New Jersey. Jones was also transported to Cooper University Hospital; the extent of Jones’ injuries is not known. Jones now faces charges of 1st degree Attempted Murder, 2nd degree Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, 2nd degree Possession of a Weapon, 2nd degree Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purpose, 3rd degree Pointing a Firearm at Law Enforcement Officer, and 4th degree Possession of Prohibited Weapons/Devices (Extended Magazine).
