A Michigan State Police Trooper was shot during a traffic stop on May 16, 2025 near Lodge Freeway and Wyoming avenue. The Trooper and suspect got into an altercation during the traffic stop. The Trooper states the suspect fired at him, at this time, the Trooper returned fire killing the suspect. The Trooper was shot twice in the vest and once in the shoulder.
The Trooper was transported to Sinai Grace Hospital in Detroit for treatment and was released the following day. The suspect is described as a 41-year-old male from Highland Park. The suspect was transported to the hospital by the Detroit Police department. Detroit Police Department’s homicide task force is investigating the incident. A handgun was recovered from the suspect’s vehicle which was towed. No motive has been provided.
