A Harris County Deputy Constable was shot outside the Harris County family Law Center in Houston, Tx in the afternoon on April 21, 2025. The Deputy Constable was responding to a call of an unidentified male with a gun walking toward the Harris County Family Law Center on Congress Street. A deputy located the male suspect and started giving chase, this is when a shootout erupted between at least 4 officers and the subject. The Deputy County Constable was shot in her back along with the subject being shot. The deputy was rushed to the Texas Medical Center where she is expected to make a full recovery. Harris County Precinct 1 Constable Alan Rosen gave credit to the officer’s bullet proof vest for saving her from serious internal injuries. After being shot, the officer stated she felt heat on the upper part of her left rib cage.
The injured officer is identified as 30-year law enforcement veteran Shelia Jones. She has since been released from the hospital. The suspect has been identified as 34-year-old Parnell Treymayne Bland who was also shot. Bland was transported to the hospital and has been charged with aggravated assault against a public servant and unlawful carrying of a weapon. He was not given bail.
