On Monday night, 2/12/2025, 2 police officers of the 39th police district attempted to pull over a vehicle just prior to 9pm on Lehigh Avenue. The suspect fled the scene and crashed his vehicle. After crashing, the suspect opened fire with a Glock model 17 weapon, striking the windshield of a responding highway patrol vehicle who was nearby and responded to the crash, the rounds struck one of the officers in his right hand and in his jacket. The suspect, Brandon Williams was found with a gunshot wound to the head, which is believed to be self-inflicted, he succumbed to the shot.
The injured officer was transported to a local hospital and later released, sustaining non-life threating injuries. Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel gave credit to the officer’s “bulletproof vest” stating that the round did not penetrate the officer and cause a more serious injury. The investigation is still ongoing.
