A Lincoln County, Missouri deputy sheriff was shot Thursday evening. At approximately 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Lincoln County deputies were called to respond to a reported domestic violence incident. On arrival, deputies contacted the 54-year-old male resident of the home outside in the yard. As deputies approached, he opened fire on them, striking one in the chest. He then set his home on fire and fled on foot. Deputies were able to locate him inside a shed on his property using a drone. Deputies found him deceased inside the shed from an apparently self-inflicted gunshot.
The injured deputy, who was wearing a ballistic-resistant vest that stopped the round fired by the suspect, was transported to a local hospital for treatment and is expected to make a full recovery. The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
