A Denver, Colorado police officer was shot Wednesday evening. At approximately 7:30 p.m. Wednesday evening, Denver Police were dispatched to a ShotSpotter report of shots fired. Upon arrival, police identified an individual matching the description of the person who fired the shots, who fled the scene on a scooter. Officers pursued the fleeing suspect, first by vehicle, then on foot. As officers attempted to arrest the suspect, a struggle ensued, and shots were exchanged between the suspect and one of the officers. Both the officer and the suspect were injured by gunfire.
Both the suspect and the officer were transported to a local hospital. The suspect is listed in critical condition. The officer, who was wearing a ballistic-resistant vest and was struck in the chest, was treated and released.
