A Brockton, Massachusetts police officer is recovering after being shot four times Thursday evening, once in his ballistic-resistant vest. Brockton officers responded to a call of shots fired around 6 pm. On arrival, police discovered a man dead in his SUV from a gunshot wound. A man believed to have shot and killed the man in the SUV then opened fire on police, striking the officer four times, including on his ballistic-resistant vest. The man then barricaded himself in his home, resulting in a several hours long standoff with police. The standoff ended when the man came out of his home and shot himself. He was transported to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries. The officer who was shot, a recent graduate from the training academy, was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for gunshot injuries to his hand and leg, and was released the next morning. He is expected to make a full recovery.
