A Seminole, Texas, police officer is recovering after being shot during a traffic stop on Saturday morning. At approximately 10:15 a.m., the officer stopped a vehicle for several traffic violations, including spinning tires, excessive acceleration, and speeding. As the officer approached the vehicle, the operator turned and opened fire on the officer. The officer was struck in the lower rib area as he tried to seek cover and return fire. The suspect fled the scene on foot but was captured by officers shortly thereafter.
The injured officer was transported to a local hospital, where he was treated and released. According to Seminole Police Chief Bernie Kraft, the officer was wearing a ballistic-resistant vest, which stopped the bullet and prevented more severe injury. The suspect is being detained in a local jail, where multiple charges, including attempted capital murder, evading police, and possession of a controlled substance, have been filed.
