Three Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, police officers are recovering after being shot while attempting to serve an arrest warrant on Wednesday morning. At approximately 6:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, a team of Philadelphia SWAT officers were attempting to serve an arrest warrant on an individual wanted on homicide charges. The suspect opened fire on police, striking three officers – one in his leg, the second in his hip, and the third officer was struck in the chest, but the round was stopped by his ballistic-resistant vest. However, the round ricocheted off his vest and struck the officer in the upper chest area, leaving a “serious contusion”, but did not penetrate the officer. In the exchange of gunfire between the suspect and police, the suspect was shot and killed. The wounded officers were transported to a local hospital, where the officers shot in the hip and chest were treated for their injuries and released. The officer who was shot in the leg is being kept for overnight observation.
